Yeh Mom!

Friday's WOD
5 rounds
10 wall balls (10#)
10 pull ups (jumping)
5:50

During warmup I worked on doing hand stands a little.  I haven't done them since the first week of elements so it was fun to try them again.  Thats something I want to start working on more along w/ the green band pull ups.  My mom did the whole WOD today w/ the g band, it was awesome!

5k

WOD
5k
38:07

So today was make up benchmark day, I had the choice between helen (done twice recently), filthy 50 (speaks for its self), and the 5k.  I'm not a huge fan of running and haven't run this far since I played soccer in high school like 6 years ago, so I knew it was going to be tough.  I was really happy I finished with out walking!!

Friday

WOD
4 rounds for time
200m run
10 Power Clean
15 Burpees

21:15

Instead of power cleans I did 20# med ball cleans. After the first round I was already dead so I'm glad I got through this one! My burpees are getting better, before I had to jump up one foot at a time and throughout the whole WOD I could jump up w/ both feet together. Even though this workout was really hard its always good to see improvements!

No point for today. My dinner was a little off proportion wise but not bad.

Keep Goingggggg....

Wednesday's WOD
400m run
21 L-pull ups
42 kettlebell swings
15 L-pull ups
30 kettlebell swings
9 L-pull ups
18 kettlebell swings
400m run
17:43

In place of the L-pulls ups I did ring rows and planks each time I had to stop (If I did 4 ring rows then I would hold the plank for 8 seconds).  I started out doing 26# kettlebell swings but had to go down to 20#.  I think this is the longest WOD I've done and that last 400m felt really weird at first but I somehow managed to pick up some speed at the very end.  I'm just glad I didn't walk!!

Test Day

WOD
100 pull ups
100 push ups
100 sit ups
100 squats
(with breaks between each set)

pull ups (jumping): 8:45
push ups (knee, 1 abmat): 9:38
sit ups: 6:23
squats: 3:51
total: 28:37

The push ups were killer! I started out doing sets of 10 then had to go down to 5 then 3s or 2s. I could see a huge improvement with the sit ups. Last time I did angie (50 reps) 3 weeks ago I know I wasn't going all the way up, so it was nice to see the progress today.

Dreaming of CrossFit...

...I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. I had a dream last night that the work out was thrusters and sit ups, 21-15-9, and I thought I was doing really good until I was done and I looked at the time and it was 28 minutes!!! I was thinking it would be around 7 minutes so I was really confused when I saw 28 up there. Lets just hope that doesn't happen in real life.

Friday the 13th WOD
7 rounds
7 thrusters (they must be haunting me or something)
7 SDHP

9:28 (35#)

Maxing Out

Today's WOD
5 rounds
Max rep shoulder press
max rep pullups
5 min rest between sets

11-11, 10-8, 10-10, 9-9, 10-10
total 98

I did 38# for the shoulder press and used the green band for pull ups (with a little extra help from my mom).

I can almost get a pull up with the green band but not quite. I am going to start practicing more after workouts when I have time and I'm not too tired.

Here I am in Pamplona, Spain at the end of the track for the running of the bulls. This was a few hours after all the craziness. From July 6-14 there is a r
unning every morning around 7 am. The bulls are kept in stalls about 600 meters from the arena. They are let out and everyone takes off running through the winding cobble stone streets of Pamplona. It was so cool to be there with all the energy, excitement, and people from all over the world. I know I'll be back in Europe sometime within the next few years and I am going to make sure to get to Pamplona with some other crazy people who want to run with me.

Sunday Funday

Sunday's WOD
4 rounds
400m run
15 dead lifts
15:04

For the first 2 rounds I did 63# dead lifts but went down to 53# for the last 2 rounds. I need to work on keeping the right form as I'm going down. I did have to walk a little on the runs but a lot less than the other night when I did helen. I was definitely seeing stars at the end of this WOD.

Starting Out

First day of elements (1/12) working on squats

Well I've decided to start this blog to help me better track my progress with Crossfit and doing the Zone Diet. I first heard of crossfit through my brother Luke and thought he was insane when he told me I should do it. Hearing what my brothers were doing for workouts was not convincing, it was scary! They told me that everything can be scaled down so that I could do it but I was still not convinced. I thought a better route would be working out for 6ish months myself then MAYBE I would try crossfit.
My parents decided to go to the free workout and somehow convinced me to join them on Jan 3. We did 2 rounds of 400m run, 20 box jumps (I stepped up), 20 wall balls (I think). I don't remember my time but I do remember how I felt. HORRIBLE but amazing at the same time. How does that happen? I don't think I have ever worked out so hard in my life and it was a huge accomplishment to finish the WOD. So my parents decided to join CVF, I wasn't really left with a choice, I couldn't be the only person in my family not doing it, so hesitently I signed up.
We started elements a week later on Jan 12. My parents and I also started doing paleo at the same time. After 2 weeks of elements I was already feeling a lot better.
The following Sunday (1/25) we started doing the Zone and my mom and I had our first CF workout post elements. Oh Angie...I was sore for days after! I later did 2 rounds of fight gone bad (167!). Man have my box jumps improved, and I hadn't even done them since the free work out! Before I had to step up but during fgb I did 20+ jumps per round. It was so cool to see the progress I've made in such a short amount of time.
I'm now going on 2 weeks of doing the Zone and group classes. Every workout I feel stronger and push myself as hard as I can. I've been doing WODS everyother day (sometimes 2 in a row), 4 days a week.
I've been trying to get in shape for as long as I can remember. Low-carb has been my diet of choice but I could never keep the weight off. I think a big problem was that I never really believed I could do it. I now believe and know that I will be successful with crossfit and the zone. I can't wait to see what the future holds!!
